I was commissioned by the Sunday Times magazine to photograph Dame Hilary Mantel, the author of Wolf Hall.
Shot on location at Exeter Cathedral Hilary was an absolutely fantastic subject, we talked about how this press campaign for the third and final book of the trilogy is very different from the first book release in 2009. Hilary told me how there were hundreds of interviews this time around. It turns out we both studied at University in Sheffield, a few years apart but our experiences were very similar, both very fond of the steel city.
Huge thanks to Russ at the Sunday Times as always for the interesting shoot, Dame Hilary Mantel and her husband Gerald for being the wonderful company and to the staff at Exeter Cathedral who could not have done anymore to accommodate us. The cathedral is such a wonderful building, so many beautiful areas and the warden very kindly showed me around including showing me the secret passages up to the choirs area, the organists seat and the cloisters.
The feature is online here. These are a couple of portraits of Hilary from the shoot.
